Let's update this News Thing!

Posted by Doomsday-One - January 4th, 2009

I got bored with the old one.
Here's a pic to show you what I've been working on over the last few days.
(Okay, not really, I worked for an hour and got bored)
Some information:
It's a small project, just so i can sling some inside jokes at my friends.
No, I didn't just code in that hour.
Yes, I do like to _root everything.

Also, anyone who can guess what that codes for wins a cookie.

Let's update this News Thing!

get the shape n shape done

WORKING ON IT!

(Round squares... pfft. It goes against all laws of nature.)

i say its a tiles game

ps. gimme co-author in the collab andi will give you the worlds largest cookie :)

Correct.
Also, I'm not running the collab =P

I can tell you however that, according to my setup, your part will be 11th in the collab. I had to be careful with yours because it had to be kept away from someone else's PC and Mac part, gah.

*Cracks Whip*

Was just waiting for the response from sumidiotdude!
Now for music...

this is getting ridiculous

Granted.

I've never put a collab together before, I'm a little stressed regardless, and I have a lot of work to do in general.
If you really want me to stop and hand over all the work so far, talk to the collab leader.

not to be an asshole, but what exactly is so hard about assembling a collab?

It is in the rules of collab making.
There must be some cause for delay.

Actually, I couldn't choose music and got really crazed about it. I'm an actionscriptor; I'm not one for personal touches unless it's for my own work =)

What is the point of the cookie? I cant eat it D:<

The cookie can be traded in for an even bigger cookie.
Or some actionscript work/help.

bigger pic plox

Bigger pox plic

I can barely make out the code. That's a tiny image. x_X Anyway, from the little bit that caught my eye, I can determine that something moves from one point to another.

It's a bad practice to use the root definition. Move to AS3.

I really should stop with root definitions, true.

But AS2 will suit me fine for the moment. I don't have anything higher than Flash 8, so using AS3 would be a challenge at even the first stage.

Oh, and the things that move are tiles. Tile-based programming is beautiful and easy. I'm hoping to make a game one day in which the tiles are user-generated, allowing for epic win customisation =)

Yes, tiles are nice, and I applaud whoever invented them, but art-based is better for Flash games, simply because it's easier. When it comes to C++ or Python, tiles are easier to plan out, though, because you don't have that brilliant IDE doing all the work for you.

The joy of tiles are small file sizes, and great and easy level creation. I also love them since where a hittest can act up, tiles don't let you down.
Plus, I just love the look of them =)

Yet art-based are good for most other games, I have to agree.

Lets update this thing again please.

And the code is for tile mapping. The array holds the map, and the tiles are in a movieclip, each fram with a different image.

Who are you and why am I inclined to listen to you?

nice!

Game about masturbation where's my cookie
